The 2015 Track World Championships saw 5 Para-T athletes in action. Megan Giglia, Louis Rolfe, Jaco van Gass Jody Cundy representing Great Britain, and Colin Lynch representing Ireland.
Jaco and Jody were head to head in the C4 1km Time Trial. Jaco made his world championship debut in fine style with a big PB of 1:10.471 to finish 8th overall. Off last as reigning world champion from Mexico, Cundy had to better the time of Josef Metelka from Slovakia. Fast out of the gate he stopped the clock at 1:04.381 a new sea level best time over the distance and good enough to retain the world stripes
Despite strong qualifying performances, the team finished just outside the medals across other events. But with personal best performances and qualifying points gained toward Team GB in Rio, it was an invaluable experience for the team and a fantastic result for Jody.
National TT Series
Good Friday brought round 2 of the national TT series. Rik Wadden continued his strong start to the season with first place and Liz Saul achieved an excellent 4th place in her first outing in Para-T colours.
The team are now looking forward to round 3 in Worcestershire on April 26th.
Less than a week after winning gold in the 1km TT in Apeldoorn, Jody Cundy was back in action at the annual Good Friday meet at the Olympic Velodrome in London. Although having not touched his bike since the World Championships, Jody was pleased with a new PB of 10.877 for the flying 200m in qualifying. In the repechage Jody made a strong move around the outside with just over a lap remaining, but couldn’t hold on long enough, losing out by millimetres on the line to Tom Scammell.
Having started out positively, Jody was left frustrated with poor tactical choices in the actual races with disappointment as well in the Keirin, which was won by Thomas Babek from the Czech Republic.
